Creative Crew May 2014 Challenge 1

I know that I have been rather quiet lately on the blog front. This is because I have been working on my projects for the latest Splitcoaststampers Creative Crew Challenges. Yes, I am very pleased to announce that I have been asked to join the team again for the May – August challenges.

The first of the May challenges is DSP/Color Focus: “Daffodil Delight, Island Indigo, Gumball Green, Smoky Slate. Use a technique of your choosing that imitates our Watercolor Wonder designer papers.”

For my first attempt, I used the Acrylic Block Technique to create a watercolored background for the World Map. I scribbled Daffodil Delight, Island Indigo, Gumball Green and Smoky Slate markers onto an Acrylic Block, misted it with water and stamped it onto Whisper White. The Smoky Slate base was stamped with the compass from The Open Sea, before adding a layer of Island Indigo with dimensionals. The sentiment from Teeny Tiny Wishes was cut with a Bitty Banners Framelit and a Daffodil Delight Candy Dot was added to the banner. The card and its layers were made using the Oval Framelits.

For my second attempt at this challenge, I used the Magical Masking Technique with a little twist. I swiped pieces of masking tape across Island Indigo, Daffodil Delight, Smoky Slate and Gumball Green ink pads and then pressed them onto a piece of Watercolor Paper. I then misted the paper with water to get the colors to mix. After the paper had dried, the poppy from Simply Sketched was stamped with Stazon Jet Black ink and coloured with Daffodil Delight and Gumball Green markers. The corners of the watercolor paper and the Smoky Slate layer were cut with the ½” circle punch to create ticket corners. I added a bow with 1/8″ Silver ribbon across the watercolor paper. The Island Indigo base was embossed with the Chevron TIEF and some Smoky Slate Candy dots added to the bottom right corner.

I will show you the remaining challenge entries for May over the next few days.
